Description
A storage bench built from reclaimed wood, 118cm long, 50cm deep and 45cm to the top of the lid. The whole piece is a box. The lid lifts on hinges and is held by a chain at each end so it stops short of falling back, and under it there is one compartment running the full length. The boards are thick and the construction plain, with a handle cut into each end, and the wood runs from pale straw through grey to a deeper brown, board by board.
At 45cm the lid sits at seat height and the 118cm length is enough for two, so the bench works at the foot of a bed, under a window, or along a hallway wall with boots and bags inside it and coats above. At 50cm deep it stands well proud of a skirting board, and the lid needs clear space above it to open.
The wood is reclaimed, cut from ceiling beams taken out of traditional Indian homes, so every board carries the grain, the weathering and the marks it picked up in that first life. Knots, splits and old fixing holes stay in the surface. No two benches are alike in tone or figure, and it is built from solid boards throughout, lid and carcase both.

Frequently Asked
How big is it?
118cm long, 50cm deep and 45cm to the top of the lid.
Does the lid lift?
Yes, on hinges, with a chain at each end to stop it falling back.
How is it moved?
There is a handle cut into each end. It weighs 38.5kg.
Will every bench look the same?
Not exactly. The wood is reclaimed, so the tone, the grain and the marks vary from board to board and from bench to bench.
How do I look after it?
Wipe the surfaces with a soft dry cloth, along the grain, to lift dust and moisture. Mild soap and water can be used sparingly. Blot spills immediately, use coasters and mats, keep it out of strong direct sunlight, and avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive materials.
