Description

The Jaya is an armchair on a solid acacia frame with loose linen cushions. Each arm is carved in one sweeping curve that starts high at the back, runs forward and turns down into the front leg, so the side of the chair reads as a single rounded profile rather than a set of joined parts. The back legs rake backwards and taper towards the floor. A back cushion and a seat cushion in pale linen sit inside the frame.

The seat is 50cm from the floor, 59cm wide and 49cm deep, in a frame 82cm tall, 70cm wide and 80cm deep, and it carries up to 150kg. That seat depth is for sitting back in rather than perching, and the frame is open below the arms, so the chair does not read as a solid block. It suits a living room, and at 70cm across it will take a bedroom corner as well.

The frame is solid acacia wood, hand carved and put together with the joinery left showing, and the cushions are linen. Acacia carries a strong and varied grain, so the colour and the figure run differently from chair to chair. The cushions are loose rather than fixed. At 20.3kg the chair can be moved by one person.
