Description

This is a wide, shallow serving bowl in cream stoneware, 29cm across and 6.5cm tall, with a lobster motif set in the centre of its well. It holds 1920ml, which makes it a sharing bowl for the middle of the table rather than a bowl for one. The low sides curve gently up to a plain rim, and the cream glaze carries a fine speckle that gives the surface real depth. Stoneware is dense and hard-wearing, and at 1.62KG this bowl feels properly substantial in the hands.

Its low, open shape suits dishes that deserve an audience: a summer salad, a tangle of pasta, roast vegetables, or a heap of mussels and prawns for a seafood supper, with the lobster coming into view as the bowl empties. It belongs on the kitchen table for a long weekend lunch and on the dining table when friends visit, and the motif brings an easy seaside feel that suits a coastal cottage as well as a town flat. Because it is food safe, you can dress a salad in it, toss it at the table and serve straight from it, so there is one less dish to wash.
