Description

The Knightsbridge SPIKEXT1 is a ground spike designed to mount outdoor spotlights directly into soil, grass or planted borders. The spike body is moulded from black polycarbonate with a 45mm diameter socket at the top to accept compatible spotlight fittings, and a tapered 170mm shaft that pushes into the ground to provide a stable mounting point.

Designed for garden lighting installations where spotlights need to be positioned within planted areas or lawns rather than fixed to walls or hard surfaces, the spike allows lights to be repositioned seasonally to highlight different planting or trees. The 45mm socket accepts Knightsbridge GUSPBK spotlights and other compatible models with matching diameter bases. A hex bolt at the top secures the spotlight fitting into the socket once positioned.

The polycarbonate construction resists cracking in freeze-thaw cycles and UV degradation from prolonged sun exposure. The 170mm depth provides stability in most garden soils, though heavy clay or compacted ground may require pre-drilling a pilot hole with a metal rod. The black finish blends into soil and mulch during daylight, keeping the mounting hardware visually recessive when the lights are off.

Frequently Asked

What spotlights is this spike compatible with?

The 45mm diameter socket fits Knightsbridge GUSPBK outdoor spotlights and other compatible models with matching base diameters. Check the base diameter specification of your spotlight before ordering.

How deep does it need to be inserted?

The full 170mm shaft should be pushed into the ground for stability. In hard or compacted soils, pre-drill a pilot hole with a metal rod to avoid cracking the polycarbonate during installation.

Can it be used in winter?

Yes. The polycarbonate material resists cracking in freeze-thaw cycles, making it suitable for year-round outdoor use in the UK climate.

How is the spotlight secured to the spike?

A hex bolt at the top of the socket clamps the spotlight base in place once the fitting is inserted and oriented. The bolt can be loosened to reposition or remove the spotlight without pulling the spike from the ground.
