Description
Our Graphia bookcase is a compact piece of shelving with a graphic face: a cream front cut with two openings, one arch-topped and one round, each framing a contrasting interior. It is made from MDF, a dense, even board that gives a smooth surface for paint, and it measures 30cm long, 24cm wide and 60cm tall. That makes it a small bookcase rather than a full-height one, sized for paperbacks, a few treasured objects and the things you want close at hand.
It can be used either way up or on its side. Stand it upright and the arch sits above the circle or below it; lay it down and the two openings sit side by side, which suits a wall above a sofa or a sideboard. It works standing on the floor beside an armchair, as a small bookcase by a window, or fixed to a living room or study wall as a display shelf. Each opening takes a few books or a single sculptural piece, and the top gives a flat surface for a candle holder or a small vase.
The body is 100% MDF with a water based paint finish, and the unit weighs 4.45KG, so it is easy to lift into place and to move when you rearrange a room. The maker gives a maximum load of 3KG, which settles what it is for: a few paperbacks, a few decorative boxes or a favourite ceramic, not heavy reference books or a stack of hardbacks. It needs putting together, and the maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. For styling, let the shapes do the work: put one tall object in the arch, a few books leaning in the circle, and keep the top to one or two pieces so the cream frame stays clear.
