Description

The smaller Gacha stands 20cm tall on a 16cm square footprint: four triangular panels of antiqued mirror glass in a soldered metal frame, set in a cross around a central spine and rising to a single point. The four bottom corners of the frame drop below the panels and carry the tree. The glass is weathered rather than clear, dark in patches and pale in others, so it reads as frost rather than as a mirror.

Twenty centimetres is the size that goes on a shelf, a windowsill or a laid table rather than holding a corner of a room, and a 16cm square base takes very little surface. A larger size is made alongside it. Mirror glass returns whatever is in front of it, so what shows in the panels is the room and the light in it.

The glass is antique-style mirror, given a mercury finish and then weathered until the silvering breaks up. Every frame is cut and soldered by hand, so the joins are visible along each edge and the patina falls in different places on every tree. Gacha also runs at 30cm tall on a 21cm square footprint.
