Description

The Folie S/70 is a large pendant light shaped as a short cylinder sitting over a wide cone, with a slim black ring joining the two parts. The shade is White Translucent Ribbon, finely pleated from top to rim, on a black structure of steel and aluminium. When lit, the translucent ribbon gives a soft, even glow. It is a big piece. The shade is 86cm tall and 70cm across, and the fitting is 236cm tall overall. It hangs on a 150cm cable from a round canopy 14cm across and 2.7cm deep.

We see it hanging over a long dining table, where its width can light the whole surface. It also works in a living room with a high ceiling that wants one strong centre point. Its size suits generous rooms, double-height spaces and open-plan living areas, where a smaller pendant would look lost. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry indoor rooms only. It takes five E27 bulbs of up to 15W each, and these are sold separately. They are its light source, so have five ready for when it goes up.

The design is by Christophe Mathieu. The structure is steel and aluminium, finished in black. That dark line shows most in the ring at the waist of the shade, and it keeps the white ribbon the focus of the fitting. It runs on 230V mains and is a Class I fitting, wired in to the mains by a qualified electrician. As a practical note, measure your ceiling height and the drop you want before you order. That way the 236cm overall height and the 70cm shade will sit comfortably over your table or seating.
