Description

The Folie S/60 is a generous pendant light with a pleated Cream Translucent Ribbon shade, built in two tiers: a straight drum on top and a wider, tapered tier beneath, parted by a slim black ring. The shade is 60cm across and 39.2cm tall and hangs on a 150cm cable, for an overall height of 189.2cm. It takes three E27 bulbs of up to 15W each, and the ribbon filters their light into a soft, even glow through the fine pleats, while the open base sends light down onto the table or floor beneath. A white inner diffuser sits inside the lower tier, so looking up you see a gentle disc of light rather than bare bulbs.

We think it is at its best over a dining table, where the wide shade can hang centred over the meal and spread its light across the table, or in a living room with the ceiling height to give a shade this size room to breathe. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only. The three E27 bulbs are sold separately: they are the light source, and you choose your own, at 15W or less each, to set the brightness and the colour of the light.

The structure is steel in a black finish, which shows as a fine, dark line at the ring between the two tiers. A round canopy 14cm across and 2.8cm deep covers the ceiling connection, with a base 11.8cm across. The Folie S/60 is a Class I fitting for 230V, wired in to the mains by a qualified electrician. Its design is by Christophe Mathieu. One practical note before you order: measure from your table to the ceiling, since the fitting is 189.2cm tall overall and the shade is 60cm wide.
