Description

This multicoloured polyresin ornament takes the form of a circus-style horse, standing proud on a drum-shaped base. The horse wears a plume on its head and a saddle cloth edged with a pointed trim and small studs, while its mane and tail are moulded with flowing detail. The drum carries a bold harlequin pattern of diamonds, with a stud at each point where they meet. It measures 10.5cm long, 12cm wide and 19cm tall, a size that sits comfortably on a bookcase shelf, a chest of drawers or a deep windowsill without crowding it, and at 0.39KG it is easy to lift and move whenever the display changes.

We see it first in a child's bedroom or nursery, where it brings a touch of the big top to a shelf, a bedside table or the top of a low storage unit. It sits happily beside books, woven baskets and soft toys, and its height gives a shelf display a clear focal point while taking up very little room. It is just as much at home in a grown-up space: on a side table, a mantelpiece or a hallway console, it adds a playful, storybook note. It also makes a charming gift for anyone decorating a new nursery or a circus-themed room.

Polyresin is a cast resin that holds fine moulded detail well, which is why the lines of the mane, the trim of the saddle cloth and the studs around the drum come through so crisply. The horse stands on its own base, so the piece needs no stand or support and can go straight onto a shelf. For styling, give it a little space of its own at eye level, where the harlequin drum can be seen from across the room, or group it with circus-themed pieces, stripes and woven textures for a cheerful big top scene along a bookcase shelf.
