Description

Fija is a stoneware candle holder with a shape you can pick out across a room. A slim candle socket sits on a wide, saucer-like rim, and below it the body narrows, swells into a rounded bulge, narrows again and flares into a bell-shaped base. A tall, slender loop handle runs from the rim down towards the foot, which gives it the air of an old-fashioned chamberstick. It stands 22.5cm tall and 13cm across, made from 100% stoneware in green, with a speckled glaze that runs from deeper to lighter green over the curves.

The socket is made for a taper candle, the tall, thin kind, so this is a holder for dinner candles rather than tealights or pillars. At 22.5cm tall on its own, it gives a taper real height on a dining table, a sideboard or a mantelpiece, and it looks just as good unlit on a bookshelf or a windowsill.
