Description
The Fauni plate is a small rectangular stoneware plate, 15cm long, 11.5cm wide and 2cm tall, with softly rounded corners and a low rim that lifts gently at the edge. Two radiating, frond-like motifs run across its surface, joined by a single curving stem. They are painted by hand, so each stroke swells and tapers as the brush left it. The plate is multicoloured, with the pattern reaching almost to the rim, and at 0.262KG it is light enough to pass round the table without a second thought.
At this size it sits between a saucer and a side plate, so it earns its place at the kitchen table and on the coffee table alike. Use it for a slice of cake or a couple of biscuits with an afternoon cup of tea, a few olives or a wedge of cheese before supper, butter at breakfast, or a small serving of dessert. It suits anyone who likes setting out a few small bites properly rather than straight from the packet, and it makes a cheerful gift for a new home. Away from mealtimes it holds rings and earrings on a dressing table, or keys by the door.
Stoneware is fired at a high temperature, which gives it a dense, sturdy body. The decoration is painted by hand over a solid glaze. The plate goes in the dishwasher, the microwave and the oven, so warming a pastry or clearing up afterwards needs no special care. Underneath, a flat foot keeps it steady on the table. Set several side by side down the middle of a table for small bites, or stack them on an open shelf where the pattern stays on show.
