Description

The Enir is a small glass vase with a waist. It stands 12cm tall and measures 8cm across, and the profile runs from a wide flared mouth down through a narrow middle to a rounded lower body that sits flat. The glass is clear and dimpled all over, hammered while it is still hot so the wall ripples rather than running even, with small bubbles caught in it. The mouth is as wide as the body below.

It is designed to grow a single hyacinth bulb, and the waist is what makes that work: the bulb sits in the mouth and rests on the narrow part, with its roots reaching down into the water below. The bulb is held clear of the water line and the roots show through the glass. Without a bulb it takes a small posy. At 12cm it suits a windowsill, a shelf or a place setting rather than a mantelpiece.

The vase is recycled glass, blown by hand. The hammered texture is worked in while the glass is still hot, so it falls differently every time and no two vases carry the same ripple. Enir is also made in a dusty terracotta. Indoor use only.
