Description

A handheld LED torch in the familiar Energizer red and black, rated at 25 lumens with a single lamp behind the lens. The body is one moulded piece with a black collar around the head and a thumb switch set into the front, so it can be turned on and off with the same hand that holds it. A black wrist lanyard is built in at the base. The pack quotes a run time of up to 30 hours, and it works on two AA cells, which are not included.

Twenty five lumens is a close range beam rather than a floodlight, which makes this the torch we would keep somewhere it will be reached for in a hurry: a kitchen drawer, the glovebox, a camping box, the cupboard where the fuse board lives. It is enough light to read a meter, find a dropped key, check a tyre or get down a dark path. The lanyard matters more than it sounds, because a torch on your wrist is a torch you still have when you need both hands for a ladder or a tent peg.

There is no water resistance or IP rating printed on the pack, so we would treat it as a dry weather and indoor torch and not leave it out in the rain. Because it takes two AA cells rather than a sealed rechargeable unit, you can put fresh cells in at any point and keep going, which is the reason a torch like this keeps working for as long as you can buy AA cells. We would take the cells out of anything that is going to sit untouched for a year or more. Buy the AAs at the same time, since none come in the pack.
