The Energizer HDL20 is a 325-lumen LED head torch with four lighting modes: high beam, wide beam, red LED and hazard flash. A rotary dimmer on the headset allows continuous adjustment from 10% to 100% output across the white LED modes, giving control over brightness and battery life without cycling through fixed steps. The IPX4 rating protects against splashes from any direction, making the torch suitable for wet-weather outdoor use and dusty workshop environments.

Designed for camping, walking, DIY tasks and emergency lighting, the HDL20 mounts the light unit on an adjustable fabric headband that fits over hats or bare heads. The three white LEDs provide a focused 70m beam distance on high mode or a wider flood pattern for close-range tasks. The red LED mode preserves night-adapted vision during astronomy, wildlife observation and nighttime navigation. The headset weighs 130g including the three AAA alkaline batteries that come in the pack, giving approximately 5 hours runtime on high mode.

The light unit tilts on a friction hinge, allowing the beam to be angled downwards for reading maps or working on ground-level tasks, or upwards to illuminate overhead obstructions when moving through low-clearance spaces. The red polymer housing resists impacts from drops up to 1m and the headband is machine-washable after removing the light unit. The battery compartment on the rear of the headset balances the weight distribution and accepts standard AAA cells for replacement once the included batteries are depleted.

What batteries does it use and are they included?

The HDL20 runs on three AAA alkaline batteries, which are included in the pack. Once these are depleted, standard AAA cells from any retailer will work as replacements. Runtime on high mode is approximately 5 hours.

Is it waterproof enough for rain?

The IPX4 rating means the torch is protected against splashes from any direction, so it will handle rain, spray and wet conditions. It is not submersible and should not be used underwater.

What's the red LED mode for?

The red LED preserves night-adapted vision, which is useful for astronomy, wildlife watching, map reading at night, and any situation where you need to see without destroying your eyes' adaptation to darkness. The red light is far less disruptive to natural night vision than white light.
