Description

This is a stoneware jug made in the shape of a fish, 13cm across and 17.5cm tall. The whole body is the fish: its open mouth forms the spout at the top, a round eye sits beside it, and the flared tail becomes the foot it stands on, with a looped handle curving from its back. Scales are painted by hand over the lower half of the body and fine lines run down the tail, all on a lightly speckled cream surface. Stoneware is dense and hard-wearing, which is why it suits pieces that are used every day.

Set it on the table with water, milk or juice at breakfast or lunch, or carry it out with lemonade to the garden on a warm afternoon.
