Description

The Dawn pencil pleat curtains are a pair of blackout curtains woven from 100% polyester in a soft, marl-effect charcoal grey. The face is a plain, textured fabric backed with a laminated 3-pass blackout lining, so the panels do their two jobs at once: they carry a quiet, tonal finish on the front and shut out daylight from behind. They are sold as a pair and come in four made-up sizes, from 168 x 137cm up to 229 x 183cm, so you can match the drop and width to your window rather than the other way round.

These suit a bedroom first of all, where the blackout lining earns its keep on light summer mornings and under a street lamp, but the plain charcoal reads as easily in a living room or a study. The neutral grey sits well against white or off-white walls and works with pale timber, cane and mid-grey upholstery, as the photographs show. The pencil pleat heading gathers onto a standard curtain tape, so it hangs from hooks on a track or a pole with rings and gives you that even, ribbed run of folds across the top.

The fabric is reversible, which means you can hang the panels either way round and the textured face has been chosen to resist marking, so it copes with day-to-day handling. As a blackout curtain the lining also brings thermal benefit, holding warmth in through winter and keeping rooms cooler in summer. Being polyester, it is a hard-wearing, low-shrink cloth that holds its shape and drapes reliably. There is a coordinating Dawn cushion in the same fabric if you want to echo the curtains across a sofa, a chair or the foot of a bed.

Frequently Asked

Do these curtains block out the light?

Yes, they carry a laminated 3-pass blackout lining, so they are designed to shut out daylight and are a good choice for bedrooms where you want a dark room.

Will the pencil pleat heading fit my track or pole?

The pencil pleat tape gathers the top into even folds and takes standard curtain hooks, so it works on a track or on a pole with rings.

How do I choose the right size?

The sizes are the made-up dimensions per pair, running from 168 x 137cm to 229 x 183cm, so measure your track width and the drop you want and pick the closest match.

Is the fabric really reversible?

Yes, the panels can be hung either way round, and the plain textured weave means both faces look the same on the window.

What is the benefit of a polyester curtain?

Polyester is hard-wearing and holds its shape well with little shrinkage, which means the curtains keep their drape and length over time.

Do these help with warmth?

The blackout lining brings a thermal benefit, helping hold heat in during winter and keeping rooms cooler in summer.
