Description

Cord Flutes L is a round wall mirror measuring 96cm across and just 2cm deep, and it is built from two kinds of glass rather than one. A slim cord motif runs across the circle and divides it: the larger segment is plain mirrored glass and gives a clean, undistorted reflection, while the smaller section is textured mirrored glass that breaks the light up as it passes across the surface. The piece was designed for Deknudt Mirrors by the Italian designer Roberto Paoli, and the geometry of the division is drawn from Kepler's work on proportion. There is no frame, so the glass reads as a single disc on the wall.

At 96cm it works as a single piece over a console, in a hallway, or on a bathroom wall. It is rated bathroom proof, so humidity is not a concern, and it hangs in four directions, which means the cord can sit horizontally, vertically or on either diagonal to suit the wall it goes on. That flexibility is worth planning for, because the division is the thing the eye reads first and its angle changes the character of the piece.

The backing is MDF and the mirror weighs 19KG, so it is a two person lift onto fixings that should go into something solid. Two hooks with wall plugs are supplied and nothing needs assembling before it goes up. Clean it with a soft cloth and a little glass cleaner sprayed on the cloth rather than onto the mirror, keeping liquid away from the textured section's edges. It carries a seven year warranty and is made in Belgium.
