Description

The Cooper is a 15cm orb-shaped table clock with a polished aluminium case, glass lens and skeleton dial that exposes the gear mechanism behind the clock face. The clock features Roman numeral hour markers on a silver chapter ring, with the brass-toned gear train and escapement visible through the centre of the dial. A winding crown at the top of the case doubles as a carry handle, giving the clock a pocket-watch silhouette scaled up to desk size.

Designed as both a functional timepiece and a desk accessory with weight, the Cooper sits on office desks, bedside tables and mantelpiece displays where the exposed mechanism can be seen. The 15cm diameter and 1kg weight give it enough mass to function as a paperweight for loose documents or maps without being unwieldy to move. The polished aluminium finish catches ambient light and pairs with both modern and traditional desk setups, while the Roman numerals and visible gears reference historical pocket watch and marine chronometer designs.

The clock operates on a single AAA battery (not included), housed in a compartment accessed from the rear of the case. The polished finish on the aluminium shows fingerprints and benefits from occasional wiping with a microfibre cloth. The glass lens is held in a bezel that can be rotated to access the hands for time-setting. The 13cm depth accounts for the thickness of the orb case plus the projection of the winding crown at the top.

Frequently Asked

What battery does it take?

The clock operates on a single AAA battery, accessed from a compartment on the rear of the case. The battery is not included with the clock.

Can the time be adjusted?

Yes. The glass bezel rotates to allow access to the clock hands for time-setting. Turn the bezel anti-clockwise to release it, set the hands, then rotate clockwise to reseat the bezel.

Does the skeleton mechanism actually drive the hands?

The visible gears and escapement are decorative elements that reference traditional clockwork. The actual timekeeping is battery-powered quartz movement housed behind the skeleton display.

How is the polished aluminium cleaned?

Wipe with a dry microfibre cloth to remove fingerprints and dust. For stubborn marks, a barely-damp cloth with distilled water is acceptable. Avoid household polishes or abrasive cleaners that can scratch the polished finish.
