Description

The Bern is a 245mm square outdoor wall lantern in brushed stainless steel with a frosted glass diffuser panel wrapped by two horizontal brushed steel bands. The fitting takes a single E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately) and carries an IP54 rating, protecting the internal components from dust ingress and water splashes from any direction.

Designed for external walls at doorways, porches, patios and garden pathways, the Bern mounts on a square stainless steel back plate and projects 120mm from the wall. The frosted glass panel diffuses the light source, producing a soft wash of ambient light rather than a direct beam. The two horizontal steel bands add a mid-century geometric accent without blocking light output, and the overall form sits comfortably with both post-war and contemporary architecture.

The stainless steel body resists corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments, and the IP54 rating covers typical UK weather exposure including rain and wind-driven spray. The fitting is compatible with dimmable E27 LED bulbs when paired with an appropriate outdoor dimmer, allowing light levels to be adjusted for different occasions. Norlys provides a 10-year guarantee on the Bern, covering the metal frame and glass panel against manufacturing defects.

Frequently Asked

What does IP54 mean for outdoor use?

IP54 provides dust protection and protection against water splashes from any direction. The Bern is suitable for exposed positions on external walls subject to rain and wind-driven spray, but should not be submerged or installed where it will sit in standing water.

What bulb does it take?

The fitting takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 6-10W warm-white LED at 2700K-3000K for outdoor ambient lighting.

Is it suitable for coastal locations?

The stainless steel construction resists corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments. Regular rinsing with fresh water helps maintain the finish in areas with high salt exposure.

Can it be used with a dimmer?

Yes, when fitted with a dimmable E27 LED bulb and paired with an outdoor-rated dimmer switch. Dimmer compatibility depends on the specific bulb model chosen.
