Description

The Balise is a cordless modern table lamp shaped like a small lantern: a ribbed blown-glass cylinder held between a terracotta iron top and base. It stands 19.5cm tall and 13.5cm across, on an 11cm base, so it fits easily on a side table, a shelf or a windowsill. Its integrated LED gives 250 lumens of warm 3000K light, so there is no bulb to fit or replace, and with a 360 degree beam the light shines out all the way round through the ribbed glass. A colour rendering index of 90 or more means wood, fabric and food keep their true colours in its glow.

Because it is rechargeable, the Balise goes wherever you want light, with no socket to reach: the centre of the dining table, a bedside table, a bookcase, a hallway console or a desk. A full charge gives a battery life of six hours, which covers a long dinner or an evening with a book. The push dimming control lets you bring the light down for a quieter mood or up for reading, and at 2.2W it uses very little power. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only. We think it suits anyone who wants a soft lantern glow on the table without a flex trailing to the wall.

The structure is iron with a terracotta finish, and the shade is clear blown glass with fine vertical ribs that give it texture whether the lamp is lit or not. It carries a 3 year guarantee. It comes with its charging cable; the plug is not included. For styling, the warm terracotta looks at home beside oak, linen, cane and cream or sage walls, and a pair at either end of a sideboard or a few down the length of a dining table give a gentle, even light for evenings in.
