The Balise is a small rechargeable table lamp shaped like a lantern: a cylinder of ribbed blown glass held between a matt white iron cap and base. Its integrated LED needs no bulb and gives 250 lumens of warm 3000K light, spread through 360 degrees, so the glass glows evenly all the way round. With a colour rendering index of 90 or more, the colours of food, fabric and faces look true under it. It stands 19.5cm tall and 13.5cm across, on a base 11cm across, so it sits comfortably on a small side table.

Because it runs on its own battery, it goes wherever you want soft light without looking for a socket: the dining table for a long supper, a bedside table, a bookshelf or a hallway console. A full charge gives six hours of light, and a push control dims it, so you can turn it right down for a quiet evening or bring it up when you want to read. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors only. We think it suits anyone who likes a modern, uncluttered look and wants a lamp they can carry from room to room.
