Description

The Balise is a cordless, rechargeable LED table lamp shaped like a small modern lantern: a ribbed blown-glass cylinder held between two matt black iron bands, the upper one a little wider than the lower. It stands 19.5cm tall and 13.5cm across, on an 11cm base, so it sits comfortably on a bedside table or a shelf. The LED is built in, so there is nothing to fit or change. It gives 250 lumens of warm 3000K light from 2.2 watts, and with a CRI of 90 or more, colours and skin tones look true under it. The beam spreads through 360 degrees, so the ribbed glass glows evenly all the way round.

Because it runs on its own battery, it goes where a socket does not reach: the middle of a dining table, a sideboard, a reading nook or a hallway console. A full charge gives six hours of light, enough for a long evening meal. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms indoors. A push of the control dims it, so you can bring it down low for supper and up again for reading, with no separate dimmer to wire in. It suits modern interiors and anyone who prefers a soft, low pool of light to a bright overhead one, and it is small enough to carry from room to room as the evening goes on.

The structure is iron in a matt black finish, and the shade is blown glass, its fine vertical ribs giving it the look of a fluted column between the two black bands. It runs at 3.7 volts. It comes with its charging cable; the plug is not included. It carries a 3 year guarantee. For styling, set it among candles on a dining table, or stand one at each end of a mantelpiece, where the matt black bands frame the glowing glass.
