Description

This square keepsake box gives a baby girl's first treasures a home of their own, with a smiling giraffe standing tall on the lid and the words BABY GIRL on a little white heart at the front. The giraffe is a raised cut-out piece, so it stands proud of the lid, and around it runs a soft wreath of safari friends: an elephant, a zebra, a hippo, a crocodile, a lion and a baby giraffe, scattered with grey leaves, pastel stars and small clouds. More animals walk along the pink base, and a scalloped band dotted in grey trims the edge of the white lid. Made from MDF, it measures 8.4cm high, 18.8cm wide and 19.4cm deep.

Its size suits a nursery shelf or the top of a chest of drawers, where it sits flat and square and keeps small mementos together in one place: the little things you want to hold on to from her earliest days. The soft pink and white colouring looks at home in a pastel nursery, and the friendly animals mean it still feels right in her bedroom as she grows through her first three years. As a gift to welcome a baby girl, it is one we think parents will treasure for years to come.

The lid lifts back on two small hinges to open a roomy, plain interior, pink in the base and white on the underside of the lid. MDF gives the box a smooth feel, and the finish and the illustrations need only gentle care: dust with a soft dry cloth and wipe with a barely damp cloth, keeping it away from water and steam. It is a keepsake for grown-ups to look after rather than a plaything, so it is best on a shelf out of small hands' reach. For gifting, tuck a handwritten card or a lock of hair inside before you wrap it.
