Description

The Avyn large stands 20cm tall on a tapered foot that opens out into a dish 16cm across, with a metal socket at its centre for a dinner candle. The glass is recycled and green, and the taper carries the colour unevenly: densest where the foot is thickest near the base, thinning toward the rim so the dish edge reads almost clear.

Sixteen centimetres of dish is broad for a candle holder, and the proportion is what it is for. The flame sits at 20cm over a wide base, which stands more steadily on an uneven surface than a narrow stem would. That suits a mantelpiece, a hall table or the end of a sideboard more than a laid dining table, where the dish takes more room than a place setting leaves.

The glass is recycled and the green is an applied finish rather than solid coloured glass. Each piece is blown, so no two carry the colour in quite the same way. Avyn also runs in a 15cm size, and the two stand together as a stepped pair. The candle is not included.

Frequently Asked

What candle does it hold?

A dinner candle, in the socket at the centre of the dish.

How wide is the dish?

16cm, which catches drips well clear of the candle.

Is the green solid glass?

No. It is an applied colour finish on recycled glass.

How big is the smaller Avyn?

15cm tall and 11cm across, against 20cm and 16cm for this one.

How do I look after it?

Wash it with a mild dish soap and warm water after each use to clear wax, and keep harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners off the finish. It gets hot in use, so let it cool fully before handling it and never leave a burning candle unattended.
