Description

The Aperta push to exit button is a flush-mount mushroom-style release control for access control and door entry systems. The 87.5mm square stainless steel faceplate carries engraved 'PRESS TO EXIT' text in green with a raised green mushroom button at centre. The button provides both normally open and normally closed contacts, allowing integration with electric locks, magnetic locks and automated door release systems.

Designed for commercial, industrial and residential access control installations, the button mounts flush into a standard UK single-gang back box or into the Aperta surface-mount box (UDTASMBSS, sold separately). The large mushroom button sits proud of the faceplate, making it easy to locate and press in low-light conditions or when approaching a door with armfuls of items. The clear text identifies the function immediately for visitors unfamiliar with the building.

The brushed stainless steel faceplate resists corrosion and fingerprints better than plastic alternatives and maintains appearance in high-traffic areas. The 35mm depth behind the faceplate accommodates the contact mechanism and wiring terminals. The button weighs 173g including the faceplate and internal assembly, giving it a solid, substantial feel when pressed. The dual contact configuration (NO and NC) provides compatibility with both fail-safe and fail-secure locking systems.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between normally open and normally closed contacts?

The Aperta provides both contact types on separate terminals. Normally open (NO) contacts close the circuit when the button is pressed, used with fail-secure locks that unlock when powered. Normally closed (NC) contacts break the circuit when pressed, used with fail-safe locks that unlock when power is cut. Wire to the appropriate terminal pair depending on your lock type.

Can this be surface-mounted?

Yes. The button fits a standard UK single-gang back box for flush mounting, or can be fitted to the Aperta surface-mount back box (part code UDTASMBSS, sold separately) for installation on brick, concrete or timber surfaces where cutting a recess is not practical.

What voltage does it switch?

The contacts are rated for low-voltage DC switching typical of access control systems (12V or 24V DC). See the datasheet in the Downloads tab for full contact ratings and maximum current capacity.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

The stainless steel faceplate resists corrosion, but the button is not IP-rated for direct weather exposure. For outdoor installation, fit it under a canopy or porch where it is protected from direct rain, or use a weatherproof surface box with a sealed cover.
