Description

This is a pair of stoneware dinner plates, and the two are not twins: each carries its own design of stylised birds. One plate is covered edge to edge with large, flat-cut birds in flight, some plain and some picked out with fine dots and stripes, and a thin contrasting line runs round the rim. The other scatters small birds over a dense, fine-grained abstract ground and finishes with a border of small scallops at the edge. Both are multicoloured, and at 25cm across and 4cm tall they are a full dinner plate size, with a gently raised rim.

A 25cm plate takes a main course with room to spare, so these suit everyday dinners at the kitchen table as readily as a Sunday roast in the dining room. Because the designs differ, the pair works well for two people sharing a meal, giving each place setting its own character without anything looking mismatched.
