Description

The Anbu counter stool stands 96cm to the top of its back and 70cm to the seat, on a frame hand carved from solid acacia and stained a deep washed walnut. The back and the arms are cut as one continuous curved rail that sweeps round from one side of the seat to the other, low enough to lean back into and to rest an elbow on. The seat is upholstered in a natural linen, stitched by hand. The legs are slim and square-tapered, with a stretcher down each side and a flat footrest across the front, set lower than the stretchers.

The seat is 70cm from the floor and the stool stands 96cm to the top of the rail, which is counter height rather than bar height. It takes up 54 by 52cm of floor, so two will sit along a 1.2m run of island with room left between them. The curved rail rises 26cm above the seat, which is a back to lean on rather than one to rest a head against. One draws up to an island with the back turned into the room.

The frame is acacia, a hard wood with a high oil content and a grain that runs from light amber through to dark mahogany within the same piece, so the walnut stain sits differently on one stool than on the next and deepens with age. The seat is natural linen. The same stool is made in mango wood with a natural finish, and Anbu runs on to dining chairs, dining tables, a bed, a bedside table, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe.

How do I look after it?

Wipe the surfaces with a soft dry cloth to take off dust and moisture. A mild soap and water can be used, but not much water, because that will damage the grain and the stain. Deal with a spill at once: soak it up with a dry paper cloth, wipe with a damp lint free cloth and dry it straight away. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive materials off it, and do not stand wet items on the surface.
