Description

Abriz is a candle holder shaped like a young tree: a single iron trunk rises from a round foot and splits into branches, each ending in a narrow cup, so five candles burn at different heights. It is made of 100% iron in black and stands 64cm tall, 26cm long and 24cm wide, with a weight of 2.65KG. That height lifts the top flame well above the surface on which it stands, and the tree outline makes it a sculptural piece in its own right, lit or unlit.

It suits a sideboard, a console table or the top of a cabinet in a living room, dining room or hallway: anywhere with headroom and a clear patch of surface 26cm by 24cm. Lit, its five flames at staggered heights give a dinner party or a long winter evening a warm, flickering focus. Unlit, the branching outline gives a bare stretch of wall or the corner of a room something tall and graphic, so it earns its place all year. It will please anyone drawn to rustic, organic shapes and to dark metal set against plaster, wood or linen.

The iron has an uneven, faceted surface rather than a polished one, so light from the candles catches the edges of the trunk and arms, and the branches grow out of the stem as they would on a real sapling.
