Description

The Aamani counter stool stands 105cm to the top of its back, with the seat 70cm from the floor. The frame is mango wood, carved by hand, and both the seat and the back panel are handwoven in recycled paper cord. The back is a loose open mesh set inside the frame, so light passes through it; the seat is woven tighter and flatter. A linen pad ties onto the seat at the back corners. The legs taper away to the floor, braced by a rail down each side and a footrest across the front.

At 70cm the seat is counter height rather than bar height, and the back rises 35cm above it. The stool takes 46 by 58.5cm of floor and weighs 6.3kg. The paper cord carries a layer of wax to keep stains out of it, and the linen pad on top can be untied and left off. It draws up to a kitchen island with the pad tied on.

The frame is mango wood and the weave is recycled paper cord. The cord is made from long strips of flat paper twisted into a rope and set into coils, then woven by hand onto the frame. Mango wood is a by-product of the fruit industry in India, light in tone with the variation running through the grain. Aamani is also made as a dining chair and as a second counter stool at 70cm tall.

Frequently Asked

How high is the seat?

70cm from the floor. The stool is 105cm to the top of the back.

What is the seat woven from?

Recycled paper cord, handwoven onto the mango wood frame. The back panel is woven the same way, more loosely.

Does the seat pad come with it?

Yes. A linen pad ties onto the seat, and it can be untied and left off.

Is it made as a dining chair?

Yes, and there is a second Aamani counter stool at 70cm tall.

How do I look after it?

Wipe the wood regularly with a soft dry cloth to take off dust and moisture, always in the direction of the grain. Mild soap and water can be used, but not much water, or it will damage the finish. Keep harsh chemicals and abrasive materials off it. The cushion cover comes off and can go in a washing machine on a delicate wash at 30 degrees. Do not tumble dry it, and note that the colour may fade in direct sunlight.
