Description

The Knightsbridge 4-pin plug-in ceiling rose provides a pluggable connection between ceiling wiring and pendant light fittings in commercial and institutional settings. The base socket mounts to a standard BESA box and accepts a 4-pin plug from the pendant fitting, allowing the light to be disconnected without isolating the circuit or accessing terminal screws. The fourth auxiliary pin supports emergency lighting battery packs or monitoring circuits, while a loop-in terminal on the base socket allows onward connection to the next fitting without junction boxes.

Designed for hospitals, schools, leisure centres, offices and retail environments where pendant lights need replacing or servicing during occupied hours, the plug-in connection allows a lamp to be swapped in minutes without tools or electrical access. The base socket remains live and ceiling-mounted while the plug disconnects with the pendant. The thermoset resin body resists impact and heat, and the 5kg mechanical load rating accommodates standard commercial pendant fittings up to approximately 3kg fitting weight plus 2kg shade allowance.

The white finish blends with standard white ceilings and the 54mm height with 45mm projection sits within typical commercial suspended ceiling voids or surface-mounts onto plasterboard ceilings without excessive drop. Terminal capacity of 4 x 1.5mm² or 5 x 1.0mm² cable suits ring final circuits and radial lighting circuits in multi-drop installations. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor environments — not suitable for bathrooms, wet rooms or outdoor canopies.

What is the auxiliary pin used for?

The fourth pin provides a connection for emergency lighting battery packs or monitoring circuits. In a maintained emergency light, this pin supplies switched live to the emergency driver. In non-maintained fittings, it can carry a monitoring signal back to a central emergency lighting test panel.

Can this be used with domestic pendant lights?

The ceiling rose is designed for commercial installations where pendant lights need frequent replacement or servicing without circuit isolation. Domestic pendants typically use fixed terminal blocks. You would need a compatible 4-pin plug on the pendant fitting to use this rose.

What cable sizes does it accept?

The terminals accommodate 4 x 1.5mm² cable or 5 x 1.0mm² cable. Most commercial lighting circuits use 1.5mm² twin and earth with an additional auxiliary cable where emergency lighting is present.

Is it suitable for bathrooms or outdoor use?

No. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor locations. Bathrooms require IP44 minimum, and outdoor canopies need IP54 or higher depending on exposure.
