Description
The Knightsbridge EMSUR2BK is a 3W LED non-maintained surface emergency downlight in a black polycarbonate housing measuring 110mm square by 46mm high. Non-maintained operation means the LED activates only when mains power fails, providing 150 lumens of 5000K cool white light during outages. The unit houses an internal lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery that powers the 3W LED module in emergency mode.
Designed for corridors, stairwells, open office areas and commercial interiors where recessed installation is not feasible, the surface-mount format fixes directly to the ceiling or wall via two rear fixing points. The fitting includes both an open area lens and a corridor lens in the box, allowing the beam pattern to be tailored to the application during installation. Dual 20mm conduit entries on the rear of the housing accept standard conduit fittings, and a push-fit loop-in loop-out terminal block simplifies daisy-chaining multiple emergency units on the same circuit.
The polycarbonate construction carries an IP20 rating for dry indoor locations and Class II double-insulated protection, eliminating the need for an earth connection. The integrated LED module is rated for 30,000 hours L70B50 life expectancy, meaning 70% of units will still emit at least 70% of their initial lumen output after 30,000 hours of operation. The 5000K colour temperature and greater than 70 CRI provide clear visibility during emergency egress. The black finish suits contemporary commercial and residential interiors where white emergency fittings would stand out visually.

Frequently Asked
What is non-maintained emergency lighting?
Non-maintained emergency lights remain off during normal operation and activate only when mains power fails. They are used in commercial and public buildings where the emergency lighting is not required during normal occupancy, but must illuminate escape routes and exits during power outages.
What is the difference between the open area and corridor lenses?
The open area lens provides a wider 120-degree beam spread suitable for rooms, lobbies and open-plan spaces. The corridor lens narrows the beam into an elongated pattern that directs more light along the length of a corridor or stairwell, improving visibility along escape routes.
How long does the battery last in emergency mode?
The internal LiFePO4 battery provides a minimum of three hours of emergency illumination at 150 lumens when fully charged. The battery recharges automatically from mains power when supply is restored.
Can multiple units be looped together?
Yes. The push-fit loop-in loop-out terminal block allows multiple emergency downlights to be daisy-chained on the same circuit, simplifying installation in corridors and large areas requiring multiple emergency points.
