Description
The Knightsbridge 20AX DP grid switch module is a modular double-pole switch with an integrated LED indicator, finished in black nickel. Rated at 20AX, it handles loads up to 4,600W on 230V mains, making it suitable for high-draw appliances including water heaters, ovens and air conditioning units. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when switched off, providing additional safety over single-pole modules.
Designed for use in Knightsbridge grid systems, the module clips onto the front of a separate mounting frame (sold separately), allowing multiple switches and sockets to be grouped together in a single faceplate. This modular approach suits kitchens, utility rooms, workshops and commercial installations where appliance controls need to be grouped in one location. The LED indicator lights when the switch is in the on position, giving clear visual confirmation of the circuit status from across a room.
The module body is moulded in ABS with steel contact terminals and measures 56.3mm height × 24.8mm width, occupying a single grid space in standard Knightsbridge grid frames. The black nickel finish provides a dark metallic tone that sits between matt black and polished chrome, pairing with both contemporary and industrial interiors. The IP20 rating makes it suitable for dry indoor locations, and the 35mm minimum back box depth requirement matches standard UK electrical back boxes. Knightsbridge backs the module with a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked
What is a grid module and how is it installed?
Grid modules are individual switches, sockets or control components that clip into a separate mounting frame behind a shared faceplate. This module clips onto the front of a Knightsbridge grid frame (sold separately), allowing you to combine multiple controls in one location rather than installing separate switches across a wall.
What does 20AX mean?
20AX is a current rating indicating the module can safely switch loads up to 20 amps at 230V AC, which equates to approximately 4,600W. This makes it suitable for high-power appliances like ovens, water heaters and air conditioning units. The 'X' denotes a higher breaking capacity than a standard 20A switch.
What does the LED indicator show?
The LED lights when the switch is in the on position, providing clear visual confirmation that the circuit is live. This is particularly useful for appliances located in a different room or cupboard, where you cannot directly see whether the device is powered.
Can this be used in a bathroom?
No. The IP20 rating means this module is suitable only for dry indoor locations. Bathrooms require switches with higher IP ratings (typically IP44 or above) or switches installed outside the bathroom zones as defined by current wiring regulations.
