Description
The Knightsbridge 10AX 2-way pull cord switch is a 74mm diameter ceiling-mount switch finished in brushed chrome with a matching chrome tip on a 1.5m white pull cord. The 10AX rating handles lighting circuits up to 2,300W on 230V, covering most domestic bathroom and utility room lighting loads. Two-way operation allows the switch to be paired with a second switch elsewhere in the circuit, enabling control from multiple locations.
Designed for bathrooms, en-suites, cloakrooms and utility rooms where wall switches are impractical or where building regulations require controls beyond arm's reach of the bath or shower, the IP20 rating suits dry indoor locations only — this is not a zone-rated bathroom switch and must be installed outside splash zones. The pull cord hangs vertically from the ceiling-mounted base, with the cord length allowing adjustment during installation to suit ceiling heights typically between 2.4m and 3m.
The switch body is constructed from thermoset resin with a steel mounting bracket, giving rigidity and heat resistance over standard thermoplastic housings. The brushed chrome finish provides a satin metallic surface that resists fingerprints and matches other brushed chrome electrical accessories in the Knightsbridge range. The switch operates on a traditional rocker mechanism inside the housing, with screw terminals rated for standard 1.5mm² lighting circuit cable.

Frequently Asked
Can this be used in a bathroom?
The IP20 rating means this switch is suitable for bathrooms only when installed outside splash zones — typically on the ceiling beyond 0.6m from the edge of the bath or shower enclosure. It is not rated for zones 0, 1 or 2 under BS 7671 bathroom electrical zoning.
What does 2-way switching mean?
Two-way operation allows this pull cord switch to be paired with a second switch (a standard wall switch or another pull cord) to control the same light from two different locations. This is useful in larger bathrooms or where a light needs control from both inside and outside the room.
What's the maximum wattage it can handle?
The 10AX rating at 230V gives a maximum load of 2,300W. For LED lighting this covers dozens of fittings; for halogen or incandescent it handles approximately 20-25 standard bulbs depending on individual wattage.
How is the pull cord length adjusted?
The cord passes through the ceiling-mounted base and can be trimmed to the desired length during installation. The chrome tip unscrews to allow the cord to be shortened and then reattached at the new length.
