Description

The Knightsbridge 10A fan isolator module is a single-width grid component designed to control and isolate extraction fans in kitchens, bathrooms and utility rooms. The module carries a 10A triple-pole switching mechanism that isolates live, neutral and earth when switched off, providing full electrical isolation rather than just breaking the live circuit. The white finish matches standard UK electrical fittings and integrates into Knightsbridge's grid mounting frame system.

Designed for installation in modular grid plates (sold separately), the module clips into position from the front of the mounting frame without needing to remove the frame from the wall. This allows individual modules to be swapped, reconfigured or replaced during refits without rewiring the back box. The 25mm minimum mounting box depth requirement is standard for UK grid systems and matches typical pattress box depths in residential and light commercial installations.

The module housing is moulded from white UREA thermosetting plastic with an ABS backing and steel contact mechanism. The IP20 rating confines use to indoor, dry environments where the module is not directly exposed to moisture or spray — typical bathroom installations position the isolator outside the shower zone or in adjacent hallways. The 1500A conditional short circuit current rating indicates the module can withstand fault currents up to that threshold when used with appropriate upstream circuit protection.

Frequently Asked

Does this module require a separate mounting frame?

Yes. The module clips into a Knightsbridge grid mounting frame, which is sold separately. The mounting frame fixes to a standard 25mm back box and accepts one or more modules depending on the frame size chosen.

What does triple-pole switching mean?

Triple-pole switching isolates live, neutral and earth when the switch is in the off position. This provides full electrical isolation of the connected fan, rather than just breaking the live circuit as with single-pole switching. Triple-pole is required for fan isolators under current UK wiring regulations.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor environments. In bathrooms, the isolator must be positioned outside zones 1 and 2 — typically in an adjacent hallway or on the other side of a wall from the shower enclosure. It cannot be fitted within reach of someone using a bath or shower.

Is the module compatible with other grid systems?

The module is designed specifically for Knightsbridge grid mounting frames. While the 25mm single-module width follows a common UK grid standard, compatibility with other manufacturers' frames is not guaranteed and should be checked before ordering.
