Description
This is a jacquard-woven throw carrying the Strawberry Thief pattern, the design William Morris drew in 1883 after the thrushes that stole fruit from his kitchen garden at Kelmscott. Birds, trailing florals and small strawberries repeat across a deep berry-red ground, worked in soft blues, warm creams and muted browns. It is woven from a blend of 62% acrylic and 38% cotton, and it measures 140 x 170cm, a single-piece size that suits one person over an armchair or laid across the foot of a bed.
A throw like this earns its place in a living room, draped over the arm of a sofa or a reading chair where the pattern can be seen properly, and it works just as well folded across a bed for an extra layer on cooler nights. The berry-red ground is a strong, warm base that sits happily against greens, deep neutrals and natural wood, which is why it photographs so well beside panelled walls and bare timber. The cotton in the blend gives it a natural feel against the skin, while the acrylic keeps the weight down and makes it easy to live with day to day.
The pattern is a true jacquard, woven into the cloth rather than printed on top, so the design reads on both faces with the colours reversing between front and back. A fringed trim finishes the two short ends and a bound-look edge runs down the sides in a contrasting pink. It arrives as a single throw. Care instructions were not supplied with this piece, so we would treat it gently and check with us before washing. If you already own the Strawberry Thief cushion, this throw is a natural companion to it.

Frequently Asked
What is the throw made from?
It is a blend of 62% acrylic and 38% cotton. The cotton gives it a natural feel while the acrylic keeps the weight manageable and easy to handle at home.
Is the pattern printed or woven in?
It is a jacquard, meaning the design is woven into the cloth itself. That is why the pattern shows on both faces, with the colours swapping between front and back.
How big is it and what will it cover?
It measures 140 x 170cm. That is a generous single-throw size, right for one person over a chair or laid across the foot of a bed rather than a full bedspread.
Where does the design come from?
The Strawberry Thief pattern was created by William Morris in 1883, inspired by song thrushes taking fruit from his kitchen garden, and it remains one of his best known designs.
Does it have a finished edge?
Yes. The two short ends carry a fringed trim and the long sides are edged in a contrasting pink, which you can see clearly in the photographs.
