The Star table lamp is a compact, characterful light in a glossy white finish, made from iron and acrylic. Its shape is simple and friendly: a wide dome shade sits on a small rounded neck, which rests on a tapering conical base with a slim, flat foot. The curves on top and the straight lines below give it a balanced, slightly playful look. It stands 37cm tall and 25cm across, a useful size that sits neatly on most tables without crowding them. It takes one E27 bulb, which is not included, so you can choose the bulb that suits your room, and it comes with a UK plug, ready for a standard socket.

It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only, and we think that leaves plenty of choice. On a bedside table it is a friendly companion for an evening book; on a desk or in a study it brings a clean, bright shape to a working corner; on a sideboard, console or hallway table it makes a cheerful welcome. The glossy white suits a crisp modern scheme and looks just as at home against warmer colours and natural wood. It is not dimmable, so it will not work with a dimmer switch: set the mood by choosing the bulb instead.

Its iron and acrylic construction is finished in glossy white throughout, so the shade, neck and base read as one clean piece. The design is by Cristian Cubiñá. Our styling tip: give it a little space around the dome so its round outline stays clear, and try it against a darker wall or a deep wooden surface, where the white really stands out.
