Our Star floor lamp is a single-light floor lamp with a white acrylic dome shade over a small rounded globe, carried on a slender stem that rises from a tapered conical base. The stem and base are iron in a glossy white finish, so the whole lamp reads as one clean white line from floor to shade. It stands 126cm tall and 25cm across. It takes one E27 bulb, which is not included, so you choose the bulb and the warmth of light you like. It is not dimmable, so pick a bulb with the brightness you want from the start.

We think it is happiest in a living room, standing beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa, where its height suits a reading corner and the slim stem takes up very little visual space. It works just as well in a bedroom corner, a study or a hallway with a socket nearby. It comes with a UK plug, so it plugs straight into a standard wall socket. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. The maker states it is for indoor use only.

The design is by Cristian Cubiñá, who pairs the soft curves of the dome and globe with the straight line of the stem and the taper of the base. Iron makes up the stem and base, acrylic forms the dome, and the glossy white finish runs right through, so the lamp keeps a single, tidy colour from top to bottom. Because it is one plain white, it sits easily with most furniture and fabrics.
