Description

The QTX battery-operated disco ball motor is a 131mm diameter rotary unit with an integrated ring of 18 RGB LEDs positioned to project light downwards through a rotating mirror ball. The motor spins at 6 revolutions per minute and supports mirror balls up to 3kg in weight, with a chrome chain and hanging hook underneath for attaching the ball itself.

Designed for mobile DJs, house parties, garden events and locations without mains power, the motor runs on 3 x AA batteries (sold separately) and includes an on/off switch on the side of the housing. The 18 LEDs comprise 6 red, 6 green and 6 blue diodes arranged in a circle around the motor shaft, creating a multicolour pin spot effect as the mirror ball rotates and reflects the light into the room. The LEDs operate in either static colour mode or slow colour-changing cycle.

The motor housing is black ABS plastic with a 131mm diameter footprint and 80mm height. The low-noise operation at 6 RPM produces minimal mechanical sound, allowing background music or conversation to be heard without motor noise interference. The 290g weight of the motor unit plus the weight of the mirror ball (typically 500g-2.5kg depending on ball size) must be supported by a secure ceiling hook rated for the combined load.

Frequently Asked

What size mirror ball does this support?

The motor supports mirror balls up to 3kg in weight. This typically covers balls from 150mm to 300mm diameter, depending on the ball construction. Heavier glass-based balls may exceed the 3kg limit at larger diameters.

How long do the batteries last?

Battery life depends on the type of AA batteries used and whether the LEDs are set to static or colour-changing mode. Alkaline AA batteries typically provide 4-8 hours of continuous operation with both motor and LEDs active.

Can the LED colour be controlled?

The motor offers two LED modes: static colour (all LEDs on simultaneously in RGB mix) or slow colour-changing cycle. There is no option to select individual colours or adjust the speed of the colour change.

Is mains power available as an option?

This model is battery-powered only. QTX and other manufacturers produce mains-powered mirror ball motors if continuous operation without battery changes is required.
