Description

The QTX 40cm disco ball is built around a lightweight polyethylene core covered in thousands of 7mm polished mirror tiles, each angled to catch and scatter light from pinspots, moving heads or ambient room lighting. Two chrome-plated hanging loops at the top accept standard safety cables and hanging hooks, allowing the ball to rotate freely on a motor or hang static as a reflective centrepiece.

Designed for small to mid-sized venues including bars, club lounges, house parties and mobile DJ setups, the 400mm diameter gives enough surface area to project light patterns across a 4-6m dancefloor without requiring heavy-duty rigging. At 3.3kg the ball is light enough to hang from standard lighting bars and most domestic ceiling joists with appropriate fixings, while still carrying enough mass to rotate smoothly without wobbling when motor-driven.

The polyethylene core resists moisture and temperature changes better than traditional polystyrene or papier-mâché balls, reducing the risk of tile detachment in damp or outdoor-covered settings. The 7mm tiles are hand-applied in rows and catch light from multiple angles, creating the classic fragmented reflection pattern associated with disco and retro party aesthetics. The chrome hanging loops accommodate cables up to 5mm diameter and sit flush against the sphere surface when not under load.

Frequently Asked

Does it come with a motor?

No. The disco ball requires a separate mirror ball motor for rotation. QTX and other manufacturers produce compatible motors rated for 3-5kg load capacity — check the motor's weight limit before pairing.

What lighting works best with this size ball?

Pinspot fixtures using narrow-beam LED or halogen lamps (6-10° beam angle) positioned 1.5-3m from the ball give the sharpest reflections. For softer ambient scatter, standard PAR cans or LED wash lights positioned nearby also work.

Can it be used outdoors?

The polyethylene core resists moisture better than polystyrene, but prolonged exposure to rain or direct sunlight will degrade the adhesive holding the mirror tiles. Under covered outdoor settings (marquees, gazebos) it performs reliably.

How is it hung safely?

Use both hanging loops with a safety cable or chain rated for at least 10kg. If motor-driven, attach the motor to the rigging point first, then hang the ball from the motor's hook with a secondary safety cable running directly to the rigging point independent of the motor.
