Description

The Knightsbridge LG06C is a polished chrome gimbal downlight lampholder that accepts MR16 GU5.3 bulbs on a 12V low-voltage circuit, rated to a maximum 50W load. The gimbal mechanism allows the lamp to tilt up to 15° from vertical once installed, directing accent or task light onto specific surfaces rather than straight down.

Designed for recessed installation in plasterboard ceilings, the fitting requires a 75mm cut-out and a minimum 120mm ceiling void above to accommodate the 70mm recessed depth of the lampholder body. Spring clips hold the fitting in place once pushed into the ceiling aperture, with the polished chrome bezel sitting flush or projecting 8.5mm depending on ceiling thickness. The lampholder operates on 12V AC or DC low-voltage supply and requires an electronic transformer (sold separately) to step down from 230V mains.

The pressed steel construction with chrome electroplated finish provides corrosion resistance and a high-shine reflective surface that amplifies the visual impact of the fitting when switched off. IP20 rated for dry internal spaces only, the lampholder suits retail display lighting, kitchen cabinet accent lighting, hallway task lighting and domestic living spaces where directional downlight is needed. What transformer do I need for this downlight?

The lampholder operates on 12V AC or DC and requires an electronic transformer to step down from 230V mains. Knightsbridge and other manufacturers produce transformers rated to the total wattage of your downlights — for example, a 60W transformer can run one 50W halogen MR16 or multiple lower-wattage LED MR16 bulbs totalling under 60W. The transformer is not included and must be purchased separately.

Can I use LED bulbs in this fitting?

Yes. The lampholder accepts both halogen and LED MR16 bulbs with GU5.3 bi-pin bases. Most 12V LED MR16 bulbs draw 3-7W and provide equivalent light to a 35-50W halogen while running cooler and lasting longer. Check the bulb and transformer are compatible before installation.

How much tilt adjustment does the gimbal allow?

The gimbal mechanism allows the lamp to tilt up to 15° from vertical once installed. This allows directional lighting onto walls, worktops or display surfaces rather than straight down onto the floor.

What ceiling void depth is required?

A minimum 120mm ceiling void is needed to accommodate the 70mm recessed depth of the lampholder body plus clearance for the bulb and any heat dissipation. The fitting cuts into plasterboard ceilings up to 15mm thick and is held in place by spring clips.
