Description

The Mercury IEC C14 to C7 adaptor converts a standard IEC C14 kettle lead into a C7 figure-8 connection, allowing the same mains cable to power devices with different inlet types. The C14 plug end fits the male outlet of a standard UK IEC lead, while the C7 socket end accepts the two-pin figure-8 plug found on many gaming consoles, DVD players, portable radios and laptop power supplies.

Designed for AV installations, touring musicians, IT support and home use where multiple device types need powering from a limited cable stock, the adaptor eliminates the need to carry separate C7-specific leads. Rated at 250V 10A, it handles typical small appliance loads without issue. The compact moulded body measures approximately 40mm long and fits easily into toolkits, flight cases and laptop bags.

The adaptor uses a two-pole non-earthed connection, which matches the C7 figure-8 standard. This is correct for double-insulated appliances that do not require an earth connection. The moulded construction provides strain relief at both ends and the dark grey plastic casing resists scuffing during transport and repeated use.

Frequently Asked

What devices use a C7 figure-8 connection?

C7 figure-8 plugs are common on gaming consoles (PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360), portable DVD players, DAB radios, laptop power supply bricks, battery chargers and some AV equipment. The connection is used where the device is double-insulated and does not need an earth wire.

Is this earthed?

No. The C7 figure-8 standard is a two-pole non-earthed connection, which is correct for double-insulated appliances. Do not use this adaptor with equipment that requires an earth connection for safety.

What is the maximum load?

The adaptor is rated at 250V 10A, which supports loads up to 2,500W. Most devices with C7 inlets draw well below this — typical gaming consoles draw 50-150W, portable radios 10-30W, and laptop power supplies 60-90W.

Can I use this to power a laptop?

If your laptop power supply has a C7 figure-8 inlet on the mains side, yes. Many laptop power supplies use C5 (cloverleaf) or C7 (figure-8) inlets, so check the shape of the socket on your power brick before ordering.
