Description

The Mercury C14 to C5 adaptor converts a standard IEC C14 male plug (the type found on the end of a kettle lead) into a female C5 cloverleaf socket, allowing a C5 cloverleaf cable to be used where a C14 connection exists. The adaptor is moulded in a compact grey plastic housing with ventilation slots along the sides, rated at 250V AC and 10A maximum current.

Designed for use with laptop power supplies, portable projectors, small printers and other electronics that ship with a C5 cloverleaf mains cable, the adaptor removes the need to replace or carry multiple IEC cables when the device cable doesn't match the available IEC lead. The C14 plug side fits directly into the C13 socket end of a standard kettle lead, converting it into a power source for any C5-equipped device.

The moulded construction ensures the plug pins maintain secure contact within the C13 socket, and the C5 socket end grips the cloverleaf plug firmly to prevent accidental disconnection during use. The compact 70mm length and minimal weight make the adaptor suitable for AV road cases, laptop bags and event production kits where space and portability matter. The 10A rating handles typical laptop charger and projector loads without overheating.

Frequently Asked

What is the difference between C14 and C5 connectors?

C14 is the male plug variant of the IEC 60320 C13/C14 pair, commonly found on the device end of a kettle lead. C5 is the female socket variant of the cloverleaf pair (C5/C6), typically used on laptop chargers, portable projectors and some small AV equipment. This adaptor bridges the two standards.

Can this be used permanently or is it only for temporary use?

The adaptor is rated at 250V AC and 10A, making it suitable for continuous use within that rating. However, where possible a direct C5 cable is preferred to reduce connection points and potential points of failure in permanent installations.

Will this work with a standard UK kettle lead?

Yes. The C14 plug side of the adaptor fits into the C13 socket end of a standard IEC kettle lead (the type used with PCs, monitors, kettles). The adaptor then provides a C5 cloverleaf socket for the device cable.

What is the physical size?

The adaptor measures approximately 70mm in length from the C14 plug pins to the rear of the C5 socket. The moulded body is compact enough to fit in a laptop bag or AV kit case without taking significant space.
