Description

The Mercury is a 50W switch mode power supply unit delivering regulated 13.8V DC at up to 3.6A continuous output. The 13.8V output voltage matches a fully-charged 12V lead-acid battery, making the PSU compatible with radio communications equipment, alarm panels, access control systems, CCTV cameras and LED lighting designed to run on 12V battery power.

Designed for fixed installation in equipment racks, control cabinets and behind-wall enclosures, the PSU connects via screw terminals on the circuit board visible in the image. The perforated metal casing provides passive cooling for the switching circuitry and measures 110 x 80 x 35mm, fitting into compact spaces where traditional transformer-based PSUs would not. The unit draws 240V AC mains at 50Hz and incorporates short-circuit protection, overload protection and auto-reset functionality that cuts output if a fault is detected and restores power once the fault clears.

The switch mode topology keeps the PSU weight at 220g compared to 1-2kg for equivalent linear supplies, and maintains regulation across a voltage range of 12.42V-15.18V to accommodate load variations. The single output channel suits individual devices or small systems rather than multi-zone installations. The IP20 rating confines use to dry indoor environments with no exposure to moisture or dust ingress. The working temperature range of -10°C to +40°C covers most UK indoor conditions.

Frequently Asked

What devices can this PSU power?

The Mercury suits 12V DC devices designed to run on battery power, including two-way radio base stations, alarm control panels, access control systems, single CCTV cameras and low-power LED strip lighting. The 3.6A output limits total connected load to approximately 50W.

What happens if the PSU is overloaded?

The built-in overload protection cuts the output if current draw exceeds the rated 3.6A. The auto-reset function restores power once the fault is cleared, avoiding the need to manually reset or replace fuses.

Can it be used outdoors or in damp locations?

No. The IP20 rating means the PSU is not protected against moisture or dust ingress. It must be installed indoors in dry, controlled environments such as equipment racks, control cabinets or behind-wall enclosures.

How is it wired in?

The PSU connects via screw terminals on the PCB. Mains 240V AC connects to the input terminals marked L, N and COM. The regulated 13.8V DC output connects to positive and negative terminals on the opposite side of the board. See the manual for detailed wiring diagrams and terminal identification.
