Description

The Mercury 13.8V 15A is a regulated switch mode PSU that outputs 13.8Vdc at up to 15A continuous current, providing 207W of total power. The 13.8V output voltage matches that of a fully charged 12V lead-acid battery, making the PSU a direct mains-powered substitute for battery systems in radio communications, alarm and security installations, access control panels and 12Vdc LED lighting.

Designed for indoor installation in control cabinets, equipment racks and technical spaces, the Mercury PSU measures 200 x 38 x 100mm and weighs 540g, allowing it to be mounted in tight service cavities where space is limited. The two output channels distribute power via screw terminal connections, reducing load on individual terminals and making it straightforward to separate circuits during fault-finding. The PSU accepts 240Vac 50Hz mains input at up to 2.5A draw.

Built-in short-circuit protection, overload protection and automatic reset safeguard the PSU and connected equipment. When overload or short-circuit conditions are detected, the unit shuts down and resets automatically once the fault is cleared. The IP20 rating suits dry indoor environments with controlled temperatures between -10°C and 40°C. The voltage range of 12.42V to 15.18V ensures stable output across varying mains input conditions.

Why 13.8V output when most equipment is rated 12V?

13.8V is the voltage of a fully charged 12V lead-acid battery. Most 12V-rated equipment is designed to operate across the 10.5V-14.4V range that a battery provides during charge and discharge cycles, so a 13.8V PSU is fully compatible and considered standard in the industry.

What happens if the PSU is overloaded?

The unit includes overload protection and automatic reset. If the connected load exceeds 15A or a short-circuit occurs, the PSU shuts down. Once the fault is cleared, the unit resets and resumes normal operation without manual intervention.

Can this be used outdoors?

No. The IP20 rating means the PSU is not protected against moisture or dust ingress and must be installed indoors in a dry, controlled environment. For outdoor installations, the PSU would need to be housed in a weatherproof enclosure rated at least IP54.

What are the two output channels for?

The two channels allow you to separate circuits — for example, one channel for alarm panel power and one for auxiliary devices — without needing to splice cables at a single terminal. Both channels share the same 15A total output capacity.
