The Kalvenne is an LED glass pendant light: a slim column of ribbed glass held in an iron frame with a satin bronze finish. It comes in two sizes, 25cm and 50cm. The 25cm size is 26cm tall and the 50cm size is 51cm tall, both are 13.5cm across, and each hangs on a 180cm drop. Both sizes run on a 10W integrated LED giving 920 lumens, so there is no bulb to buy or change. The light is a warm 2700K white with a CRI of 90+, so wood, fabric and skin tones look true, and the ribbed glass glows all the way round the column.

We like it hung low over a dining table, where it gives a warm, even glow, or beside the bed as a slim alternative to a table lamp. It also suits a hallway or landing, and in a tall stairwell several can be hung at different heights to make a cluster of glowing columns down the stairs. The 50cm size reads as a tall column and the 25cm size as a short lantern, so the two sit happily side by side. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. The maker states it is for indoor use only.

The frame is iron, finished in satin bronze, with a ring at the top and base and slim uprights that hold the ribbed glass in place. The fitting is dimmable on Triac, so it needs a compatible Triac dimmer, which lets you bring the light down for quieter evenings. As a mains fitting, it is for a qualified electrician to install. For styling, the soft sheen of satin bronze sits well against warm white walls, dark timber and pale plaster, and the clear ribbed glass keeps even a group of these pendants feeling light rather than heavy.
