The Elowen is a reversible outdoor cushion measuring 30 x 50cm, a long lumbar shape that sits well behind the lower back on a bench or across the seat of a garden chair. One face carries a hand-painted watercolour leaf design in soft greens and warm earth tones, drawn from ferns and trailing foliage against a pale ground. Turn it over and you have a classic check in muted moss and cream. The face is 100% cotton; the reverse is a cotton and linen blend at 97% cotton, 3% linen, finished with a water resistant coating so it can hold its own outdoors.

This is a cushion made for a seating area you actually use. It suits a garden bench, a set of dining chairs on the patio, or a sofa in a conservatory or garden room where a country look is wanted. The two faces give you two settings from one cushion: lead with the leaf print for a fresh, planted feel, or flip to the check for something quieter and more traditional. Its long shape works as well laid flat along a bench as it does propped in the corner of an outdoor sofa, and it sits comfortably alongside plain linens and natural timber furniture.

The cushion is finished with a piped trim around its edge, which gives the seams a crisp line and helps the shape hold. Because the outer is largely cotton with a water resistant coating, it copes with the odd shower and dries out again, though we would still bring cushions in for winter or heavy rain. The blended reverse means the check side carries the small amount of linen, giving that face a slightly drier, more textured handle than the printed cotton front.
