Description

The Knightsbridge SF7300BC is a BT master telephone socket with an integrated surge arrestor and R/C filter behind a brushed chrome screwless faceplate. The surge arrestor protects connected equipment from voltage spikes on the incoming telephone line, while the R/C filter assists service providers during line diagnostics and fault-finding by reducing interference.

Designed as the primary connection point for incoming BT telephone lines in residential and light commercial installations, the master socket terminates the external line and provides the interface for internal telephone extensions. The screw terminals accept standard telephone cable cores, and the built-in gasket seals the back of the faceplate against the back box to reduce dust ingress.

The brushed chrome finish is applied to 201 stainless steel, providing a low-sheen metallic surface that resists fingerprints and pairs with contemporary and transitional interiors. The screwless cover plate clips onto a separate sub-frame fixed to a 25mm minimum depth back box, leaving no visible fixings on the wall once installed. At 87.5mm square the faceplate matches standard UK single-gang switch and socket dimensions, maintaining a consistent grid when installed alongside other Knightsbridge accessories.

Frequently Asked

What is a master socket and do I need one?

A master socket is the primary termination point for an incoming BT telephone line. It's the first socket the external line connects to, and all other telephone extension sockets in the property connect downstream from it. Most UK properties with a landline telephone need one master socket installed where the line enters the building.

What does the surge arrestor do?

The integrated surge arrestor protects connected telephones and equipment from voltage spikes caused by lightning strikes near the telephone line or faults in the external network. It diverts excess voltage to earth, reducing the risk of damage to sensitive electronics.

Can I install this myself or does it need a registered installer?

In the UK, any work on the incoming BT telephone line up to and including the master socket must be carried out by an Openreach engineer or a registered telecom installer. Homeowners and electricians can install and wire extension sockets downstream of the master socket, but not the master socket itself if it's the first point of connection.

What back box depth is required?

A 25mm minimum back box depth is needed. The screwless cover plate adds 4.3mm of projection from the wall once fitted, giving a total installed depth of approximately 23mm from the wall surface to the front of the plate.
