Description

Big Brother is a floor lamp on a grand scale, 180cm tall and 70cm in diameter and white from top to bottom. A wide drum shade sits tilted at a jaunty angle on a tall, tapering base, and both are clad in white fabric that lets the light through, so when it is switched on the whole lamp glows, not only the shade. It takes three E27 bulbs, which are not included, and it is dimmable, so pair it with dimmable E27 bulbs for a softer, lower light when you want one.

We think its size makes it a natural partner for a long sofa or a deep armchair in a living room, and it sits just as happily beside a bed or in the corner of a large, open lounge, where a smaller lamp would simply disappear. Give it a good stretch of floor and some headroom above it, as it suits rooms with space to spare. It comes with a UK plug, so it plugs straight into a standard socket. It is rated IP20, so it is for dry rooms only. The maker states it is for indoor use only.

It is made from iron, plastic, fabric and leather, and a leather handle on the base makes it easier to lift and move from one spot to another. The design is by Oriol Llahona, who gave this tall floor lamp a gentle sense of humour with that tipped shade. The fabric is white throughout, so it sits quietly in a room by day and glows by night. For styling, stand it just behind the end of a sofa or beside a bed, and set it against warm wood, grey stone or pale walls, where the white fabric looks equally at home.
