The AV:Link DisplayPort to HDMI adapter is a 0.2m passive cable that converts a DisplayPort source (male plug) to an HDMI output (female socket). The cable supports digital video up to 4K UHD resolution (3840×2160 at 30Hz) and carries embedded multi-channel audio, making it suitable for connecting PCs, laptops and graphics cards with DisplayPort outputs to HDMI-compatible monitors, TVs and projectors.

Designed for desktop workstation setups, home office dual-monitor configurations and AV presentation systems where the source device has DisplayPort but the display requires HDMI input. The 0.2m length keeps cable runs short behind a desk or wall-mounted display, reducing clutter. You will need a separate HDMI cable to run from the adapter's socket to your display — the adapter acts as the signal converter at the source end.

The cable uses a unidirectional passive conversion circuit housed in the DisplayPort plug end, so signal flow is DisplayPort input to HDMI output only — it cannot convert HDMI to DisplayPort in reverse. The 4.5mm cable diameter and compact plug housings allow the adapter to fit alongside other cables in tight spaces behind monitors or in desktop cable management trays. At 30g total weight, the adapter puts minimal strain on laptop and PC ports.

Does this adapter work in both directions?

No. This is a unidirectional adapter that converts DisplayPort output to HDMI input only. It cannot convert an HDMI source to DisplayPort. The conversion circuit is built into the DisplayPort plug end and requires the DisplayPort source to provide the signal.

What refresh rate does it support at 4K resolution?

The adapter supports 4K UHD (3840×2160) at 30Hz refresh rate. For higher refresh rates at 4K you would need an active adapter with external power, as passive cables are limited by the bandwidth available from the DisplayPort source.

Do I need a separate HDMI cable?

Yes. This adapter has a female HDMI socket on one end, so you need a standard male-to-male HDMI cable to run from the adapter to your display. The adapter sits at the source end (PC or laptop) and converts the signal before it travels down the HDMI cable.

Will it carry audio as well as video?

Yes. The adapter passes embedded multi-channel audio from the DisplayPort source through to the HDMI output, provided the source is configured to send audio over DisplayPort. Check your PC or laptop audio settings to ensure DisplayPort audio output is enabled.
