Description

The Brunsen is a 230mm diameter crystal pendant light built around a polished gold-plated rim with cascading strands of precision-cut lead crystal drops suspended below. A single BC (B22 bayonet cap) bulb fitting at the centre of the gold canopy lights the crystal from above, causing each faceted drop to refract and scatter light through the structure. The pendant measures 260mm from canopy to the lowest crystal point.

Designed for spaces where a traditional chandelier would overwhelm, the Brunsen suits hallways, dressing rooms, bathroom vanity areas and entrance alcoves with ceiling heights of 2.2m or above. The 230mm footprint allows it to be used in multiples — two flanking a bathroom mirror, three in a row down a hallway, or a pair over bedside tables. The gold-plated frame brings warm metallic tones that pair well with deep wall colours, marble, wood panelling and brass fixtures.

The lead crystal drops are arranged in vertical strands of varying lengths, giving the pendant depth and movement when air circulates. Each crystal is individually faceted to catch and refract light at multiple angles, creating the characteristic sparkle of Strass crystal. The gold canopy and chain are metal with a polished finish that reflects ceiling light and complements the warm glow of an incandescent or warm-white LED bulb. At 1kg the pendant is light enough to fit standard UK ceiling roses without additional reinforcement.

What bulb does the Brunsen take?

The pendant takes a single BC (B22 bayonet cap) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 4-6W and 2700K to match the gold tone and highlight the crystal refraction.

Can it be used in a bathroom?

The Brunsen carries no IP rating and is designed for dry indoor use only. It can be installed in a bathroom if positioned outside splash zones (typically 600mm or more from a bath or shower enclosure), but check Building Regulations Part P for your specific installation.

How is the crystal cleaned?

Dust the crystal drops with a dry microfibre cloth or a soft brush. For deeper cleaning, remove individual crystal drops (they typically hook onto the frame) and wipe with a barely-damp cloth and distilled water, then dry immediately to avoid water marks. Do not spray cleaners directly onto the pendant.

Can the chain length be adjusted?

Yes. The chain can be shortened during installation by looping excess links inside the canopy or cutting to the desired length before final fitting. The 260mm height stated in the specification is from canopy to the lowest crystal point, not including the chain drop.
